Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Dasjen Cistin is a small journal of Irish farmhouse recipes. There is no login, no shopping cart, and nothing to buy on this site, so there is very little of you to collect in the first place. This page walks through the few places where information does pass through: the technical logs every website keeps, the advertising that keeps the recipes free, and anything you choose to send us directly.

Reading the site without an account

You never need to register, verify an email, or hand over a name to open a recipe on this site. Every page, from Dublin Coddle to Irish Apple Cake, is public and free to read. Because there is no account system, we hold no password, no billing detail, and no saved profile for any reader.

Server and connection logs

Our hosting provider keeps a routine technical log of visits, the same way most web servers do. That log can include the requesting IP address, the date and time of the request, the page asked for, and details about the browser or device. This exists to keep the site running, to catch abuse, and to troubleshoot when something breaks. We do not comb through it to identify individual readers.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file your browser holds on to. Dasjen Cistin does not need cookies to show you a recipe, and the site itself sets, at most, a harmless preference cookie. Cookies that do carry weight generally come from the advertising and analytics tools described below, and your browser lets you clear or block them at any time without breaking the recipes.

Google AdSense

To help cover the cost of running this journal, pages on Dasjen Cistin may show advertising through Google AdSense. Google acts as the advertising vendor here, and it may use cookies, including its own DoubleClick cookie, to decide which ad appears based on your browsing history across sites, not just this one. We do not choose or control which individual ad you see; that decision sits with Google's own systems.

If you want to understand or adjust that, these are the relevant Google pages:

  • How Google uses cookies for advertising: policies.google.com/technologies/ads
  • Google's general privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
  • Turning off ad personalization: google.com/settings/ads

Turning off personalization changes which ad you see, not whether you see ads at all.

Basic analytics

We may look at aggregate, anonymized traffic numbers, for instance whether more readers open the soda bread recipe or the coddle recipe in a given week. This tells us what to write about next. It does not require, and we do not build, a profile tied to any one visitor.

When you email us

If you write to the address in the contact box below, we see your email address and whatever you included in the message. That information is used only to answer you, is kept only as long as the conversation is active or useful, and is never added to a mailing list, because this site does not run one.

Children

Dasjen Cistin is written for a general, adult home cooking audience and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly gather information from a child under 13. If a parent believes a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your options

Because the only personal data we typically hold is whatever you emailed us, exercising a right of access, correction, or deletion is simple: write to us and describe what you would like reviewed or removed, and we will act on it within a reasonable time.

Updates to this page

If the way this site works changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be rewritten and the date at the top updated. Reading the site after a change means the current version applies to you.
